The American Medical Association (AMA) has released the 2013 CPT code set and it holds a plethora of guideline changes, code additions, revisions and deletions. As the AMA continues standardizing CPT codes, guidelines and conventions we are continuing to see big changes for the years to come.
We also continue to see terminology changes to provide uniform language that accurately describes medical, surgical and diagnostic services as a means for nationwide communication that is reliable among physicians, other qualified healthcare professionals, patients and payers.
Also included in the CPT 2013 release were eighteen modifier revisions for professional services and seven modifier revisions to the CPT modifiers that are approved for Outpatient Hospital Use.
Charge Description Masters will need to be updated and education provided to the departments responsible for hard coding and soft coding these services.
